GREENPEACE ÍNDIA

Hi ROSE,

Happy World Environment Day! Ever since the pandemic struck, most of us have lost contact with nature. But with climate change knocking on our doors, the need to reflect and act on environmental damage is more urgent than ever.

A Decade of Ecosystem Restoration

This year’s theme, ‘Reimagine. Recreate. Restore.’, highlights the importance of healthy ecosystems which support all life on Earth. To ensure consistent action to protect and revive ecosystems, the UN has declared 2021 to 2030, as the ‘Decade on Ecosystem Restoration’.

Reviving Urban India Through Sustainable Mobility

Producing over 60% of global emissions, cities hold key responsibility for climate change. By 2050, 68% of the world will live in cities. Without changes at the core, we can’t stop our planet’s collapse. Our Detox City campaign aims to impact mobility systems in Indian cities, so they have more green spaces, sustainable public transport and, better cycling and walking infrastructure.

Reviving Rural India Through Sustainable Agriculture

We’ve already seen how reviving a natural ecosystem can impact lives. In July 2020, we worked with the farmers of Jamui district Bihar, to create Food & Biodiversity Parks in Tari Dabil and Kedia village. Over the past year, the community has nurtured over 3000 saplings. Such initiatives spread environmental awareness, raise incomes and lower carbon levels.

India’s green recovery strategy must include initiatives that keep the well-being and welfare of all in mind. Now more than ever, our cities need a bold vision that is backed by action.

This year, Greenpeace celebrates 50 years of activism. In honour of World Environment Day, take a peek at some iconic actions from India and cities across the world.

Let’s pledge to protect our environment and encourage others to join in the fight.

Warm Regards,

Greenpeace India
